Hephatha

April 10, 2017

Greetings!

In Luke’s Gospel, we read these words: 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ” (Luke 24:6-7).

Can you imagine what it must have been like for Mary and Martha along with certain other women to hear those words from the Angel at the tomb of Jesus? The range of emotions went from the lowest of the low to the highest of the high as the news of the resurrection of Christ began to register first in their minds, then it moved to their hearts and finally made its way to their feet as they soon would be running to tell the Disciples!

Like the first-century disciples, we are called to share the Gospel with people around us who need to hear about the Lord. Did you know that a majority of people would attend church if someone simply invited them?

Thom Rainer, a Christian blogger and researcher recently polled over 300 non-churched people, and found that ninety-six percent of them are at least somewhat likely to attend church if invited!

What an opportunity that is! Especially during these days of Easter when people are seeing things about it already! It could be your phone call or facebook private message, or perhaps an email or note that not only encourages someone to attend church, but also experience the forgiveness that is found in Christ.

Be sure to take some time to make a list of people you will invite to attend church with you on Easter Sunday. You may even want to offer to pick them up if they need a ride!

Many Blessings,

MEN'S BIBLE STUDY - Death... Then What

Men, join us for Death... Then What Thursday, April 13, at 7:15 a.m. in Pastor Andrews' office.

That we all die is pretty much agreed upon, it's what takes place two seconds later that makes us wonder. Explore this lively and completely relevant topic in Death ... Then What?

Softening death with euphemisms or denying its approach with cosmetic surgery doesn't change the fact it's there -- waiting for us all. Eating healthy, avoiding vices and exercising regularly are all touted as ways to get more mileage from our bodies. And while these practices may increase physical performance, they will not put the skids on our demise. Looking beyond our mortal lives here, man has formulated complex religions, philosophies and ideologies to attempt a glimpse behind the final curtain, dropping on each of us, when we close our eyes in this world for the last time.

Innovative as these systems of thought may be, they offer no solace against the perfect judgment of an omniscient and righteous God. That relief is available only through Jesus' redemptive work on the cross. In Him all the speculations of religious thought and baffling intricacies of philosophical inquiry come crumbling down. As God's creatures -- as sinners -- the end of our days is entirely in His hands. In this fact neither our clever wordplay nor our comedic explanations will do us any good, but only faith in Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Join Hephatha’s Family for a wonderful family-centered event! Explore surprising details about Jesus’ resurrection through captivating stations that drive home the Easter message: Jesus is Risen.

This is a great event for families with small children, and the Easter Egg hunt is great for children from 2 years to 4th grade.

This special screening is the perfect outreach opportunity... a chance to invite friends and neighbors to an event in a community setting. This entertaining new film follows the great adventure story of Luther’s life, packed with political intrigue, kidnappings, and life-or-death showdowns. At the same time, it's a story about the most important questions of life, including "Who am I?" "What is my purpose" and "How do I get right with God?"

This is the first time in more than 60 years that Lutherans have made a feature-length film about Martin Luther and the Reformation. Filmed in historic locations across Europe, this movie brings Luther’s story to life with exquisite attention to detail. It’s a chance to strengthen your faith by revisiting the birth of Protestant Reformation and to share that experience with others.
